Description of Jaguar XJ series V12 5.3-litre Engine was first used in the 1971 series III E-Type Jaguar body. Not only did Jaguar Motors used the V12 engine for the E-type Jaguar, but it became the principal engine for the XJ series of Jaguar cars such as the 1972 Jaguar XJ12 Series, the 1973 Daimler Double-Six Series and the 197 Jaguar XJS. The V12 5.3litre engine was also fitted in the 1976 XJ6 Jaguar car. The V12 piston engine was originally designed in 1954 for racing at Le-Mans but Jaguar Motors withdrew from the Le-Mans race and the V12 engine was laid to rest until the 1960s. Eventually, after further development of the V12 5.3litre for road use. Jaguar Motors made the V12 engine their chief performance engine for the Jaguar cars of the 70s and 80s.
