A Wood Pigeon Picture Image
A description of a Wood Pigeon: Scientific name: (Columba palumbus)! Wood Pigeons are much larger than the their smaller cousins the common feral pigeons you see flying around everyday. The wood pigeon is a large grey bird with a white neck patch and white wing patches and pinkish breast. They breed in woodlands trees, trees near roads and highways, near rivers, in parks and gardens. Their nests are from just sticks and the female species will lay only two white eggs which takes 19 days to incubate. After hatching, it will take about 30 to 34 days before the young birds can fly. Most birds need to drink water at least twice a day especially, small birds who drink by dipping their bill in water and throwing their heads back to swallow. Pigeons and doves are able to immerse their bills in water and drink continuously.
